- Political Effects: There was not much pull in the political field with this court case, but this did bring the subject of education to the government's eyes to compare ourselves to the schools of other countries.
- Social Effects: The court case opened up the gash between the North and South on the subject of science and religion. In the Bible Belt South, much of the states had adopted a law that forced the education of religious subjects and opposed the theory of evolution. Also, some states in the North had done the same. Because the trial had been inconclusive, not many people can draw a conclusion as to where we stand on the subject. However, many people began to shift towards teaching evolution theory in schools.
