The cartoon above is a political cartoon depicting the Palmer Raids of the 1920s, when Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer was "seeing red", meaning he was also a member of the American public that feared the introduction and take over of communism in the United States. As a result, Palmer led quite a sum of raids, later dubbed the Palmer Raids, in which he captured many people who were or were thought to be of communist belief. In the cartoon, Palmer is the foremost giant carrying the string of what looks like thought-to-be communists and socialists. The boat in the bottom right is a representation of the people who had been deported due to the suspicion of their communist and socialistic beliefs. The three men who are copying the famous "hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil" monkey statues are most likely political officials that are ignoring the amount of politically incorrect activities that are happening. The bottom left of the cartoon shows two police/detective officials going through people who are showing signs of extreme patriotism in order to avoid being deported like their long gone brethren, mostly people like the last two on the far left who are carrying a sickle and hammer, the symbol of the communist party. The building in the background with someone's hand flinging out a bomb is a representation for the bombs that were sent to political officials during this time period.
